Vaughn Velocity V5 review
Hi Everyone,
Success Never Rests
Every goalie in the NHL has one thing in common. They’re never satisfied with their current level of success. Over the duration of a long NHL season, goalies will often fall off the wagon of their normal success and find themselves in a slump. The typical fan would say an NHL goalie might be “content with making millions of dollars, regardless if he was winning or not.” Or my favorite, “He’s already been paid, why should he try to win now?” However, true competitors are never satisfied with the present success. They’re always hungry.
How to build durable hips.
Hey Gang,
I put together a little video to help you better understand how the hip works and some simple suggestions to help improve the durability of the hip. With young goalies growing up with the butterfly style, I fear that we are going to see a rash of goalies who injure themselves out of the game by the time they reach their late teens - the same way minor baseball burns through young promising pitchers. Check out the video below to learn more...
Simple Steps to Improve Your Spine Function
Ask goalies where they get back pain or back aches and most will point to their lower back or lumbar spine...so I am NOT going to talk about that region at all in this article. Why? Well, I am going to spend this segment talking about the thoracic spine, which is the middle part. You see, I think much of the low back fatigue and pain you experience is related to poor functioning at the hips or the thoracic spine.
A two minute test for you...
Hope you had an awesome off-season, thank goodness hockey season is back! Today I want you to answer this quick question in one word..Do you include myofascial release in your training? This is a yes or no question. If you foam roll or use a lacrosse ball on a daily basis, then the answer is "YES", if you don't know what a foam roll is or what you would do with a lacrosse ball, then the answer is "NO". Now I am going to convince you in two minutes of the importance of myofascial release.
Have your hips forgotten how to work?
Ever seen a toddler squat? Do they stop at 90 degrees because squatting below that level is dangerous for their knees? No way! Those toddlers, man, they can squat the lights out any day. They drop their butt down between their feet, then keep their chest up - it is a thing of beauty! Now before I see a flood of hockey goalies crashing through the gym doors throwing a 300lb barbell on their back and trying to squat butt to the floor, let me clarify one thing. I am not talking about the 'squat' exercise; I am talking about the squatting movement pattern.
